SEWAGE DEPARTMENT TRAINING PROGRAM

How to Build an Elevated Sandmound Sewage Disposal System

The exterior of the berm shall be graded to the slope specified in the permit plan.  In most cases the berm would be installed at a 2 to 1 slope. (2 feet out for every foot down).  In some cases, 3 to 1 may be specified and in extremely rare cases, 4 to 1.  The 3 or 4 to 1 ratio often applies only to the berm on the down slope side of the elevated sandmound.  However, there are occasions where it will apply to more than just one side.  Always consult the permit plans to determine which ratio applies.

The two elevated sandmounds are drawn at the same scale and show how the different berm ratio affects the overall size.
