How an Elevated Sandmound Works

 

Another variation is the use of aggregate substitutes.  While typically aggregate is made from crushed stone, it may also be made from shredded tires (referred to as Rubber Rock) or proprietary materials.

 

Leaching chambers, manufactured by several companies, is one type of proprietary aggregate substitute sometimes used in this area.  Other types, more recently approved, are expected to be used more frequently in the future.
