SEWAGE DEPARTMENT TRAINING PROGRAM

How to Repair an Elevated Sandmound

Organic solids and grease may escape the treatment tank due to ...

  • Not pumping the treatment tank often enough.

  • Not pumping the treatment tank correctly.

  • Baffles missing or not properly functioning in the treatment tank.

  • Using chemical or biological treatment tank chemicals.

  • Using excessive amounts of water  (Note: Hydraulic overloading will create its own problems.  However, excessive use may flush organic matter from the treatment tanks.)

  • Groundwater leakage into the treatment tanks. (Could flush out organic matter.)

  • Compaction of the berm and cover soil resulting in anaerobic conditions in the mound.
