How to Build a Free Access Gravity Sandfilter
Install a splash pad. The Splash pad may be made of a variety of materials such as a 2 x 8 board, concrete pavers, leftover roofing shingles, etc. The purpose of the splash pad is to break the shock of the effluent before it hits the sand. This is especially important if the filter has a lift pump installed before it. The splash pad should be at least 6 inches wide and is run the length of the tank.
