SEWAGE DEPARTMENT TRAINING PROGRAM

How to Build an At-Grade Sewage Disposal System

Working from the upslope side of the absorption area, bucket the aggregate onto the absorption area site.  The aggregate should be placed at a height of 10 inches at the highest corner of mound.  Aggregate is then piled to the depth required to bring the surface of the aggregate level across the mound.  The size and area of the bed will be found in the permit plans.

End View

If you can not reach the entire width of the absorption area from the upslope side, place extra aggregate at the point of furthest reach and push it into place with a rake or light machine.  Do not walk on or run the machine over the absorption area unless there is at least 10 inches of stone underneath.

The perimeter of the absorption area should be sloped at a 2 to 1 slope.
